STAGE 1: PLANNING.

G324 Advanced Media Portfolio:
Design Brief: To create either a music video or movie trailer, with appropriate ancillary tasks, taking into consideration the common codes and conventions of your chosen genre.

Through Blogspot, I intend to ‘blog’ as a means to record any and all progress made by myself or that of my group as, together, we attempt to produce a music video for a song of our choice. We have been assured that the song may be of any genre which is to be clearly conveyed through various aspects of mise-en-scene, including: costume, lighting, make-up ect. However we have also been instructed to ensure that the final product adheres to the appropriate codes and conventions of our chosen genre in order to create the very best professional finish.

To make tackling the enormous project that lies ahead of me slightly easier, I have divided it into three main stages with the help of the A2 media specification:

- PLANNING
- RESEARCH & PRODUCTION
- EVALUATION

Therefore, by posting regular updates, I shall undertake each stage individually and complete it to the very best of my ability ensuring that each blog has the relevant title for quick and easy reference. I intend for each stage to be clearly addressed through detailed analysis of: basic planning, photography, ancillary tasks, principal photography and the actual editing of the video itself. With the help of extensive feedback from both my peers and teachers, I hope to improve my work in order to reach the best possible standard.

The group I am working in consists of Rebecca Barrett, Melissa Randall, Jennifer Surtees and myself and together we have brainstormed several possible routes we could potentially take in our approach to the creation of our music video. It has been decided that to choose a song that already has an established narrative structure may be the more sensible choice, as this will make our task much easier in the long run when it comes to the application of our own video’s concept. We researched several major artists currently dominating the music charts and found that the most popular target audience, and coincidentally most favourable among the group, was that of: young adult women.

Recognised artists within this category are: Rihanna, Pixie Lott and Katy Perry and a song by each of them was considered, having analysed and discovered a series of achievable conventions between each of their latest videos.

Rhianna- Only Girl (In The World):

Pixie Lott- Broken Arrow:

Katy Perry- Teenage Dream:

However, it was later decided during the meeting that we should opt for a more alternate artist: Vanessa Carlton. It was eventually suggested and agreed upon that our choice of song should be:

Vanessa Carlton’s: ‘A Thousand Miles’

We plan to meet again soon in order to discuss the enormous task ahead of us in greater detail.
